Ostara

In the time of Ostara, Spring bursts forth, bringing freshness to our lives. This is the season of the shoots peeking up from the ground and the time of warming. With themes of fertility, renewal, and rebirth, celebrations in this time bring the Spring outside in to us. On this day we make offerings to the Goddess Ostara, the embodiment of the bright light at the dawn of the day and of the beginning of Spring.

Ancient Germanic Vernal Equinox celebrations tended to lag the Vernal Equinox, usually coupled with the full moon; why are we leading it? The answer is because of how our community fits together. With many having obligations the following, more proper weekend, due to time off from work and other expectations, we chose to celebrate early. Besides, it does seem to be getting warmer now — what better time to celebrate?

Our Ostara rite will be held at 11:00am March 15th, 2008, at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Centre County in Room 1.
