Imbolc

Our Imbolc rite honoring Brighid will be held at 1:00pm February 2nd, 2008, at the Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of Centre County in Room 1.

Imbolc occurs on February 2nd and, like Groundhog day, acknowledges the first stirrings that reassure us that winter is swaying and spring will return once more. Although we may not notice it while we hide indoors, seeds are beginning to sprout. Imbolc is a celebration of purification and reconnection with nature after staying inside for so long. It is also a celebration of light (the lengthening days) and fertility – with sheep and cows beginning to give birth, milk is another focal point of this holiday. Brighid, triple goddess of Inspiration, Fire, and Healing is honored on this day.

Cost: Free, but donations to defray space rental and supply costs gladly appreciated.
