About Us
Hemlock Vales is an Ar nDraiocht Fein (ADF) Protogrove based out of State College, Pennsylvania — home of Penn State University.
What does that mean?
ADF is an fellowship interested in ancient Indo-European religon. We attempt to use both inspiration and scholarship together to inform a modern religious practice. Though we use the word “Druid”, members of ADF have varied cultures of interest and personal practices.
As for the Protogrove part, we are a local subgroup of ADF in the process of finding others interested in joining us to become a more formal congregation, or Grove. That having been said, you don’t have to join to attend, even if you plan on coming to every single public event we hold.
So, what do I need to know in order to come to one of your events?
First off, you may want to join the ACCEPTS e-list for event updates.
Our rites are open to visitors. We do not (in fact ADF does not) demand commonality of belief.
Attire is a common concern, and we’re fairly informal. Jeans are just fine. The presiding druid usually wears a robe. Many rites are outdoors, so dress appropriately.
As for things to bring, offerings for the Kindreds are always welcome; we often have a potluck afterwards as well (email to ask). While donations are appreciated to defray the cost of offerings and event space, they aren’t required.
